In November 2011, we
invited a
group of
educationists
– teachers,
headmistresses,
vice
principals
and others
– to the
Ranan
Workspace
for an
adda.
The adda
was to
talk about
the
position
and
perception
of arts
in schools. The
suggestions,
feedback
and
valuable
inputs and
ideas from
this adda
have now
evolved and led
to the
creation of
the Ranan
SchoolConnect
programme.
The
programme
aims to
build value and appreciation for the arts in the youth of today.
Our first endeavour is the Ranan SchoolConnect Week: 7 days between 1 and 9 November 2012, full of rich exciting opportunities for students and teachers to delve into the world of the performing arts and artistic expression.

In addition
– so that

* Ranan workshops will be of 60 to 90 minutes duration each, and take participants through an energetic and fun-filled experience playing with rhythm, text, music and movement. Involving the mind, body AND spirit, these workshops aim to stimulate the imagination and provide the connecting thread between the many other experiences on offer during the week.
Timings of Ranan workshops will be mutually decided with participating schools.
In addition to this, all schools signing up for the SchoolConnect Week can avail of the following:
- between 2 to 9 November at various venues in Calcutta: a certain number of discounted tickets for all the programmes of Rabindra Utsav which will feature performance groups from across India
- 3 November 2012, 7pm: an informal interaction session with Scottish Dance Theatre at the Ranan Workspace (near Rabindra Sarobar Metro Station).
- 9 November 2012, early afternoon: discounted places at a workshop for teachers conducted by Moloyashree Hashmi of Jana Natya Manch, on using theatre in the classroom.
- 9 November 2012, 7pm: a multimedia performance-reading of Faiz's poetry presented by Jana Natya Manch at the Ranan Workspace (near Rabindra Sarobar Metro Station).

Dear Biswajit
DeleteThank you for your interest in Ranan's work!
Unfortunately, the SchoolConnect programme is available only to schools, not to theatre groups or any other organisations. However, the other workshops we host from time to time are open to all. You should be getting information about these through our blog and emailer.
The external elements in the SchoolConnect programme such as the Scottish Dance Theatre performance at Kala Mandir and the Rabindra Utsav shows are open to the public as well. So you will be able to watch these without any problem.
nice blog..
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing

Dear Ms. Banerjee
DeleteSorry for this delayed response.
We do not yet have a regular programme for children, but - as Sanjna's interview would have informed you - Junoon and Ranan are working closely together to try and bring such experiences to Calcutta. This will take some time to come through, of course. We have added your email id to our database, and will keep you posted of any developments through our monthly newsletter. For any further information you can contact us as ranan.artsengage@gmail.com
Thank you for your interest!
