Announcing the first Ranan SchoolConnect Week

In November 2011, we invited a group of educationists – teachers, headmistresses, vice principals and others – to the Ranan Workspace for an adda. The adda was to talk about the position and perception of arts in schools. The suggestions, feedback and valuable inputs and ideas from this adda have now evolved and led to the creation of the Ranan SchoolConnect programme. The programme aims to build value and appreciation for the arts in the youth of today.

Our first endeavour is the Ranan SchoolConnect Week:  7 days between 1 and 9 November 2012, full of rich exciting opportunities for students and teachers to delve into the world of the performing arts and artistic expression.

 ... The line up includes

Scottish Dance Theatre (Dundee, UK)
Jana Natya Manch  (Delhi)
Rabindra Utsav (groups from across India)
Ranan (Calcutta)

Students and teachers not only get to experience national and international shows first hand but also get to interact, question and engage with performers, directors, choreographers and technicians who create the magic. In addition – so that students can discover for themselves the joys of creating and expressing, and satisfy that itch to be doing it themselves – Ranan has a series of workshops lined up exploring text, music, rhythm, movement and more, all through the lens of performance.

Scroll down for the schedule.

Schools who sign up for the November week will have 7 days of shows, demonstrations, workshops, behind the scenes peeks… and more, that promises to energise and excite. In addition Moloyashree Hashmi of Jana Natya Manch will be conducting a special workshop for teachers on using drama in the classroom.

    1. Dear Biswajit
Thank you for your interest in Ranan's work!
Unfortunately, the SchoolConnect programme is available only to schools, not to theatre groups or any other organisations. However, the other workshops we host from time to time are open to all. You should be getting information about these through our blog and emailer.
The external elements in the SchoolConnect programme such as the Scottish Dance Theatre performance at Kala Mandir and the Rabindra Utsav shows are open to the public as well. So you will be able to watch these without any problem.

    1. Dear Ms. Banerjee

      Sorry for this delayed response.

We do not yet have a regular programme for children, but - as Sanjna's interview would have informed you - Junoon and Ranan are working closely together to try and bring such experiences to Calcutta. This will take some time to come through, of course. We have added your email id to our database, and will keep you posted of any developments through our monthly newsletter. For any further information you can contact us as ranan.artsengage@gmail.com

      Thank you for your interest!
